Conservation Matters: Sea Island Cotton

Join us for a comprehensive history of sea island cotton in South Carolina as told by Dr. Richard Porcher. The story of sea island cotton, as told by Dr. Porcher, encompasses planting, cultivation, harvesting, ginning, and market preparation, along with the reasons for its demise as an important agricultural and economic force. Dr. Porcher will present descriptions of South Carolina’s cotton plantations, including plantation architecture and biographical information about the owners.
